Listening

There is an art to listening, to truly hearing. You have to quiet your own thoughts and open to another’s. You have to affirm your understanding of the other before launching your own diatribe.

Don’t ignore me as I try to vocalize my questions and thoughts, then ask me what I think.

Don’t listen to part of it then demand we make a decision.

I say, if you aren’t going to really listen to the answer, don’t ask…

Can you tell I just got out of a meeting?

The online mental nudist

Do I dare disrobe my mind online?  Will I have to strip away common knowledge, abandon tradition, cast aside rumors, dogma, and biases?

According to legend, Lady Godiva rode through town naked because if she did so, her husband agreed to relieve the townspeople of the burdensome taxes he had placed on them. She, out of compassion and kindness, overcame her embarrassment in order to lessen their pain.

What would enable me to become a mental nudist? Perhaps it’s the vision of helping to create an environment, a community, where all views are respected, where everyone is encouraged to consider divergent ideas.

While I hold onto my own beliefs and perceptions with commitment and passion, can I find the generosity of spirit and the will to try to understand the flip side?

It’s an adventure worth trying, don’t you think?

Clarity

sunrise crescent moonAt dawn, I step outside my door, facing east, calling my muse, invoking inspiration.

The crescent moon hangs in the indigo expanse, promising clarity as the sun slowly begins its journey into the cloudless sky.

Spring

I’ve always been in awe of the works of visionary artist Susan Seddon Boulet. This picture of Isis and Osiris is one of my favorites.

The story of Isis and Osiris is veiled in mystery. The story goes somewhat like this: Osiris was pharaoh of Egypt, Isis was both his sister and his wife. Set, their brother, killed Osiris, and Isis brought him back to life.

Then they mated and she bore a son, Horus.

Now for the mythology/mystery/magic of it all. Isis was and is worshiped as the goddess of many things, motherhood, fertility, the matron of nature and magic.

Isis is considered wise and a lover of knowledge, sovereign of all things spiritual, worshiped in many aspects, called by countless names…It is said that her tears of sorrow over her beloved’s death are what flood the Nile every year.

Osiris quite naturally was thought to be god of the underworld and the afterlife, but also was called Lord of the Sky, and became associated with the Sun. Through his death and rebirth he came to symbolize continuity and stability.

Isis as the matron of nature, Osiris as the Sun God and lord of death and rebirth.

Spring Equinox celebrates the renewed life of the Earth that comes with the Spring. It is a solar festival, celebrated when the length of the day and the night are equal. The Sun is reborn.

This is the time of year to celebrate the symbolic changes going on in the world due to the increase in the powers of the God and Goddess.

Isis comes forth and gives her mating call. The answering power awakens from the very depths of Osiris’ being. Isis is not a woman, she is all women, she is that which is woman. All barriers of personality are down, they each unite with the Cosmos. Losing themselves in the Cosmos, they find each other.

Spring has returned, the earth grows green.

New beginnings

I held the child on the day she was born, seeing perfection and recognizing an old soul friend.

I am learning to gaze upon my own mirrored reflection in the same way.
